Winter Pick Me Ups

It hard to believe the holidays are over, but we are well into 2009.  The decorations are put away, or almost!  This leave a blank canvas for decorating at the home.  Live with the open areas, allow the corners to "breathe."  Adding small touches, by changing pillows or a fresh houseplant can brighten up any room.  Valentine's day is coming and small touches in the kitchen or powder room can say "I love you," without breaking the bank.  Heart themed towels can be used in either room.  You can purchase inexpensive paper ones at card factory outlets.  Plain pink, red or white ones can be stamped to add a special individual touch.  Plain white kitchen towels can always be spruced up with appliqued hearts, cut from colorful cotton fabric.  An afternoon spent with children, stamps, acrylic paints and glitter can turn plain copy paper into one of a kind valentines.  Invitation size envelopes complete their presentation.  Don't forget to spend some time baking some homemade cookies sprinkled with pink or red sugars.  Then settle back, and enjoy the latest magazines, and plan your gardens.
